Five Appliances That Make Life Easier

School starts back in just a few days. I love my kids, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to having a little more time to myself to get some work done. With that in mind, I’ve also been adopting a few new “life hacks.” I’ve been using these for a few weeks and am hoping that with these plus having the kids back in school, I can get things done around here a little easier. Here’s a look at the five appliances that make my life easier.

A great pet vacuum – Dealing with Jack’s hair (our golden retriever) is a job in itself, so I finally invested in a vacuum specifically designed for dog hair. It’s made tremendous difference in my life. Instead of blowing hair around on our wood floors, it actually sucks it up. Instead of leaving wisps on our couch, it actually has a tool that gets up all the fur. I easily save a couple of hours a week not dealing with all the embedded fur in my carpet. If you don’t have a pet, this sounds like a simple thing. If you do and you’ve been battling this problem, you know what a big deal it can be to find something that effectively addresses the never-ending issue.

An expert food processor – Not chopping vegetables is the best thing ever! My Cuisinart comes with so many blades, I can shred, chop, grate, and learn how to tap dance with my food processor. It helps me with everything—vegetables for sautees, casseroles, soups, etc. It even helps me make ice cream by dicing my strawberries in a way that would take me forever my hand. It’s not a small investment, but I promise it’s worth it.

Amazon Echo – I’ll be honest—my husband got this one for free in a gift bag at a conference. I probably never would have bought it, and I would have totally missed out. This great little device has 360-degree audio and supports my beloved Pandora (although I know the cool people use Spotify.) It helps me control lights when we travel, thermostats when it’s hot as hell here, and lots of other things I’m sure I haven’t explored yet. I love this thing!

My new favorite coffee maker – I confess that I’ve made a less-than-eco-friendly choice my going with my new Nespresso machine. But it make my life so much easier, and I’ll be starting a garden AND composting to compensate for the waste it produces. The Nespresso Pixie is my everything. It uses pods to deliver my favorite flavors every time. It’s automatic and couldn’t be easier.

An excellent instant pot – I’ve heard about the glories of an instant pot for nearly a year now, but I haven’t tried one for myself until about two weeks ago. It sounds melodramatic, but this thing has changed my life. In case you’re not aware, an instant pot works like an electric pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, yogurt maker, steamer, warmer, and sauté pan all in one. Since my kitchen space is limited, this space me space, hassle, and time like no other kitchen appliance I’ve bought. It will change the way I cook pretty much everything, including out family-favorite potato chowder.
